Good to know
Why won’t my iPhone photos open on my PC?
iPhones usually save photos as HEIC. Windows often can’t open that without an add-on. As JPGs, they open in any app.
Can the iPhone do this itself?
Yes. Under Settings › Camera › Formats, “Most Compatible” saves new photos as JPG instead of HEIC. When you share by email, the iPhone often converts them for you, too.
Why is the JPG bigger than the HEIC?
HEIC stores photos more efficiently, so the same photo as JPG is usually larger. If it’s too big for a portal, use “Compress image”.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Converting happens in your browser. Only the program for it is downloaded the first time; your photos stay on your device.
